John McClendon,
Age 60, Dies
John McClendon, 60 years of age, died at his home at 1018 (typos
- should have been 1118) Jefferson Street in the Terrace at 11:30 p.m.
yesterday.
Funeral services are scheduled to be held at Oak Hill Cemetery,
Poplarville, Miss., at 3 p.m. tomorrow, with Rev. T. R. Colder,
Poplarville, officiating.
Until the time of the funeral, the deceased will lie in state in the
chapel of Brown Funeral Home.
McClendon has been ill for some time, suffering from a lingering
illness. He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Zulimer (typos - should
have been Zuleima) (maiden name = Corkern) McClendon, five sons,
five daughters, one brother, one sister, five half-brothers and five
half-sisters.
His five sons are James L. of New York City; Leroy
of Synder, Tex.; John of New Orleans; Wilford of Bogalusa;
and Woodrow of Bogalusa.
Daughters surviving are Mrs. Ruth Lee Brown of Japan; Mrs.
Bernice Franskosky (should have been Frankosky) Newory, N.J.; Eddie
Mae Fornea, Bogalusa; Mrs. Dorothy Davis, Bogalusa; and Miss
Juddie (typos - should have been Julia) McClendon , Bogalusa.
His brother is Monroe McClendon of Bogalusa. Half-brothers
are Prentiss of Mobile, Ala., and Melton McClendon of
Chicago, Ill.
Mrs. Minnie Mizell of Isabel is his surviving sister. Half-sisters
are Mrs. Lois Powell, Baxterville, Miss.; Mrs. Murial Sommers,
Sheveport; Mrs. Dixie Bannister, Baton Rouge; Mrs. Orrie
(typos? should have been Orie) Bush, Isabel; and Mrs. Marie
Miller, Bogalusa.

BOGALUSA - Walter H. "Dee" McClendon,
72, a resident of Bogalusa died yesterday at Bogalusa Community
Medical Center.
He was a member of the Bogalusa Shrine Club, a past president of the
Italian American Cultural Society, a member of Annunciation Catholic
Church, a member of Masonic Lodge 244 F and AM.
He is survived by his wife Betty B. McClendon of Bogalusa; one
son, Greg McClendon of Bogalusa; one daughter, Sherri McClendon
Pittman of Bogalusa; one sister, Mildred Mixon of Metairie;
and six grandchildren.
Visitation is today from 5-9 p.m. at Poole-Ritchie Funeral Home. There
will be a rosary and vigil service today at 7 p.m.
The funeral is tomorrow at 11 a.m. at the funeral home chapel.
Interment will take place at Ponemah Cemetery.
